PVP and Trading – April 2016 Report

PVP Report

This focus into my “Alone PVP” endeavours, using usually 2 tons. I might eventually team up with the occasional friend during my “Alone PVP” roams, but any kills/losses I achieve in a proper fleet are not posted or analysed here.

I’m not even going to lie about my goals as an ”Alone PVPer”. I want to find people, deceive them and kill them. I’m a brawler at heart, so dying is inevitable, but I want to make sure I manage to kill more than I lose. While not trying to be an Isk Efficiency fanatic, I do prefer to use cheaper affordable ships to kill more expensive ones.

A4D joined Dead Terrorists Alliance on a temporary basis and left in the end of the month. Why so? Some of our members were interested in doing some Turkey shooting, and by Turkey I mean Goons. Fellas wanted to experience some fleet action in a Sov Warfare context, and shoot Goons, so we needed to join the MBC. A4D and some Dead Terrorists corps  have an old history together, so we were invited to take part on the festivities.

I already knew I wasn’t going to join alliance or coalition fleets, so my biggest concern was to have half the freaking EVE Universe blue! Fortunately it wasn’t as dramatic as I was afraid… Near Curse region, SLYCE and Darkness were blue, but all the Russians in Catch were not, so I messed with them instead. Far from Curse, the OSS were the only blues I found, but then again, I spent most of my time messing with Russians in the East and South.

Unfortunately the CFC crumbled all too fast, so no more reason for A4D to be in the North, and we left Dead Terrorists on good terms, going back to Curse and AFK status due to spring and summer coming… People seem to love the warm weather more than a computer game... If global warming hits hard and if America becomes a tropical paradise A4D won’t even log in the winter!

COMBINATIONS FLOW

Next graph shows how many ships I killed and lost, using my most usual combinations.

Still addicted to Dual Hull Brutix. Killed 85 ships while losing 24.

Funnily enough, I also used a bait Combat Exequror backed up by a Vexor to mess with some T3 Destroyers camping near my home system. They all ran away from my Exequror as I landed on their bubble and avoided engaging me. While coming back home with a broken heart, an Orthrus engaged me, only to be surprised by a scrambling Exequror! It was worth dusting those ships of the hangar after all!

HOSTILES KILLED

Let’s take a better look on the hostiles I killed. Next graph shows what ships I killed and how many.

Most kills were Vexor, Vexor Navy Issue and a bit behind Gila and Myrmidon…
T1 Cruisers continue to be dominated by Vexor and Caracal by large margin, and this is likely to continue. Vexor Navy Issue and Gila are still heavily used for both PVP and PVE.

I’ve noticed a tendency for people to use more and more Combat Battlecruisers as they do provide a good midpoint between a T1 Cruiser and a HAC.

During this month I killed 51 different ship types, even though mostly only 1 or 2 of each, so people like to bring some variety to the field. This month I hardly killed any Caracal or Svipul, but the Gila keeps showing as extremely popular. People complain about “Svipul Online” but for me it seems it’s more “Gila Online” for 4 month in a row.

Following graph shows the Isk value per ship type.

HELLO MR. FACTION FITTED SIN! Me and my mate Wicked Angel in an Osprey Navy caught this fella while he was returning from a disconnect. Oddly he decided to never engage and tried to make back to gate, but we managed to bump him several times and eventually he died after tanking 130k hitpoints… Had he decided to engage, he would have killed us all easily, so I’m glad he didn’t.
Next spikes are the Orthrus and the Tengu. I also managed to kill a couple of these and they turned out to be faction fitted, netting me around 2 Billion in loot.

Finally we have a Raven Navy Issue and some Gila. I never ever ever EVER recall having seen a Raven Navy Issue… I don’t even know why the ship has not been popular in the last 10 years, but this month I caught one traveling gates. Peace to his odd appearance.

Even though many ship types killed might attest for a good variety on the field, I created some Categories in order to understand better the different ship classes I managed to kill.

My top preys were Faction Cruisers (by far), Interceptors, Combat Battlecruisers and T1 Cruisers. Combat Battlecruisers consolidating their “re-appearance” this month.

How about isk wise, in what categories I’m able to inflict more economic pain?

Faction Cruisers once more time, by a HUUUUUGE difference. Sure, there’s the Black Ops, but that’s more of an oddity. T3 Cruisers showing as pretty expensive too.

HOSTILES KILLING ME
Equally important is the notion on what ships are being used to kill me. Solo players always complain about being “blobbed” all the time. Well… I WANT for my foes to try to “blob” me, I WANT to fight outnumbered, I WANT for them to bring their best, so that I can outsmart them and kill them, just before I bail out teasing them!!... or die trying… Of course, once my foes bring too much it’s time to safe up and let them vent in local on how I’m a coward because I’m not throwing myself at their 15/20 men fleets for their leisure.

1st thing I checked was how large were the fleets that actually killed me, or in other words, how many people are in my losses killmails.

Generally speaking, if I died to a gang of more than 10 people I was probably simply ganked.
If I died to a gang with 5-10 people, I was probably surprised by unexpected backup.

My preferred targets are mostly gangs with less than 5 people, and if I died, it probably means that I made serious mistakes and/or assessed the situation very badly and that there is a lesson to be learned around on how to make better next time.

Looking at the graph, I was ganked by large fleets 3 times… This is very acceptable!

I died 9 times to gangs with 6-10 people. This is definitely too much and it tells me that I simply don’t know when to quit and call it off XD. Usually 5-10 man fleets do take some time to form, so I’m pretty sure I’d have ample opportunities to get safe. I should be more careful and not be caught by fleets this size that many times

I died 12 times to 1-5 man Fleets… These are my intended targets and I seem to find these a lot, so I still believe there are good opportunities to a solo player/small gang out there.

Let’s take a look to the ships that actually managed to kill me.

Largest spike are Ishtar, mostly because I got caught by a fleet of 15 of those. It was a fast death…
I also died a lot to Svipul (every fleet brings one), Stiletto, Gila and Crow. Interceptors are pretty much always deployed to catch me and people just love to bring their Gila (even if fitted for PVE) no matter what.

There are also many many ships that show up in my Killmails once or twice only. A total of 61 different ship types were used to kill me. I pretty much think this shows that EVE is healthy when it comes to variety and small gang PVP.

Let’s look at the Categories used to kill me

This month it’s Faction Cruisers, Interceptors and HACs that killed me the most. The HAC spike is mostly explained by the 15 Ishtar gang I met. Also showing up strong are the Combat Battlecruisers, a rising category in my latest travels and, of course, T3 Destroyers.

Ships that completely dominate solo wannabe PVPers, like ECM Cruisers and Logistics, aren’t really used all THAT much. I find that extremely good news for me and other solo guys out there.
That’s all I remembered to take a look at in a PVP Report. Send me out a mail if you think I overlooked something, and make sure to undock and go out there!

TRADING REPORT

MARKET PROFITS
This month profit was around 6.2 billion… What happened for it to be so low?! I blame Goons… Yes seriously! I blame Goons!!

Once this whole “World Word Bee” kicked in, my profit in Hek plummeted. The war raged on the North and Hek is in the South, so everybody went “up there”. I noticed a strong diminish in my profits already in the last week of March, but the beginning of April was excruciating, even with me updating orders every day. Also, according to other market bloggers, all trade hubs seems to have been negatively affected and some new temporary hubs in the north showed up to fuel the war effort.
Still the war was not the only factor… As I saw my profit go down, I made myself a question, I had not the answer to:

How much profit comes from “old stock”, and how much comes from “new stock”?

I call “Old Stock” orders that are up for more than 15 days or so and “New Stock” orders with less than 15 days, coming mostly from items just recently brought from Jita. Since I already was taking a hit on my profits, I decided to take this a bit further and try to get some estimative. Sure, It was being an abnormal month, so results might not be 100% accurate, but better make this experiment while already having a bad month.

Therefore, this month of April I did not purchased absolutely NOTHING to resupply the Hek market. My costs were mostly PLEX, PVP Brutix and some Blueprints that I’ll address later on. I kept updating orders on a 1 or 2 day basis. I managed to sell the above mentioned 6.2Bil, meaning that about 60% of my profits come from “Old Stock”… Quite a lot. I already knew Hek was a slow moving market (and I like it that way) but I expected my “New Stock” to be more important than it actually is. This is not necessarily bad news, as I can get more lazy now, telling myself “Oh, old stock is more important, so I’ll just buy stuff tomorrow…. Or the next day” XD

This tactic also allowed me to free up lots of market orders, as well as get some liquid isk to invest in these new Citadels things as well as new Capital Mods. At the end of the month, I had 53 liquid billion available, ready to spend after the new patch hit.

Once the new patch hit I bought Citadel BPOs, Citadel Mods and some new Capital Mods, but that was all addressed in my previous Blog post, dedicated to that particular issue, so I won’t repeat myself here.

HAULING EXPENSES
I didn’t haul anything… Soooooooo smooooth…. Sooooooo relaaaaaaaaaaxing…

PLEX EXPENSES
Payed my 2 accounts with 1 PLEX each, costing me a total 1,9 Billion. Plex is lowering and I hope it lowers even more! 300 million Plex days where are you?! Come back!!

On the other hand I have no idea how many of my customers buy market stuff resorting to PLEX funding… I might be, indirectly, making more profit with expensive PLEX, having more people buying my market stuff with isk obtained via PLEX, rather than saving isk directly from the PLEX I purchase to maintain my accounts. Who knows…

BLUEPRINTS
This month I had 3,5 billion profit, by selling 111 contracts with an average of 32 million profit each contract. 350 million were BPC profits and rest is BPO profits. This was the month I earned the most in Blueprints, ever, beating last month record.

I currently research around 300 different BPOS… this means that when I finish up a “research cycle” I won’t have much stock lying around, as stuff already probably sold. As an example, I see no advantage in researching 10 “Neutron Blasters” at once they sell very slowly, so I prefer to research one of each gun from all races.

I purchased 13 Billion in a Medium Citatel BPO and Citadel Mods BPOs. 500+million BPOs went to Curse to research in NPC Null and cheaper BPOs will be researched in a Hi-Sec Station. Once I bought the BPOs I made 5 BPC from each BPO, completely unresearched, to start making some isk immediately, and while waiting for these BPCs to sell I’ll research those BPOs in short cycles. Priority right now is to always have BPCs ready and up on contracts. In the end of May I’ll be able to present how much isk is rolling in from Citadel Mods BPC sales. For a 13 Billion Investment, they better be worth it!

I started training my PVP toons to research BPOs in Curse as is an AFK process, and I can just update jobs once I die and spawn back into Curse. It takes a month training, so not that much anyway.

MISCELANEOUS INVESTMENTS
Did not bought any Capital BPOs in order to resell them… Looked for good deals but found none.
Finally, my Overall Graph
